Literature Text

When you can’t sleep at night
For fear of the human race,
You need not worry
Your darling little face.
For one day now,
Be it now or future long,
All of us here on the earth
Will be gone.

There are many ways, yes,
To turn out the light,
But which ones are bad…
And which ones are right?
A gun to the head,
A knife in the hand,
Isn’t it all part of some
Master plan?
If by a drought,
Poison or blight,
One day we will all
Be without our life’s light.

Now before you condemn me
And say I am mad,
Think of my words,
There’s logic to be had!
Who are we to judge
Wrong or right?
Because all of us have
Only one light.
One light to be transfixed on,
One light to love,
One light dedicated to either
Below or above.
But that in itself
Can be held to question,
For what if there is
No greater mission?
What if our own lights
Are only just that?
A blip in the universe,
A mouse among rats?

But whether our purpose
Is big or not at all,
We have only one light
And soon we’ll be gone.
The young ones you see,
They will still be there,
When your skin is cracking
And there are worms in your hair.
Eventually we all,
No matter our stance,
Will have used up
Our one and only chance.
So how can we say
What is wrong or right,
To do with other people's
Personal light?

Of course there are limits,
That’s here of course,
For instance we can’t
Say become a horse.
Now this poem
Is becoming tedious,
All just a jumble
Of mingled nonsense.
But I’ll leave you with this thought,
This rambling from my mind,
Please when you read it
Be gentle and kind.
Though soon there will be
No more of mankind’s light,
We shouldn't be so hasty
To judge others “wrong” from “right”
I get weird thoughts when I'm cleaning my room, apparently...
